The Summilux-SL 50 mm f/1.4 ASPH. has been designed to deliver maximum optical performance and sets new benchmarks for sharpness. Thanks to its internal focusing, the overall length of the lens remains constant during focusing.
A special feature of its construction is its motorised focusing system. Unlike fixed-focal-length manual-focus lenses, whose length changes with focusing, the Summilux-SL 50 f/1.4 ASPH. focuses internally. To guarantee high image performance across the entire focusing range, the focusing group consists of one aspherical element, which is nevertheless light enough to allow fast autofocus. The optical formula comprises 11 elements. Two of them are aspherical and 4 are made of anomalous partial-dispersion glass to correct chromatic aberration. This complex optical formula reduces all chromatic and geometric aberrations to a barely perceptible minimum. A sophisticated multicoating is applied to all lens surfaces, while the optimised barrel design and the rectangular lens hood significantly reduce the effects of internal reflections and oblique rays.
