Superior optical performance and agility for professionals: the innovative Sigma 300-600mm F4 DG OS | Sports combines the power of a prime lens with the freedom to zoom
The Sigma 300-600mm F4 DG OS | Sports is a revolutionary fast-aperture super-telephoto zoom that offers all the practicality and versatility of a zoom with the superior optical performance of a super-telephoto prime. With the Sigma 300-600mm F4 DG OS | Sports, photographers can move freely from 300mm to 600mm without changing lenses. Fast, precise AF performance thanks to its HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) motor, and optical stabilisation of 5.5 stops1 at 600mm make the Sigma 300-600mm F4 DG OS | Sports a powerful choice for the demands of sports, action and wildlife photography, where situations change rapidly and the opportunity for the perfect shot lasts only a moment. Featuring a magnesium alloy housing, thermal insulation paint and a number of additional features such as the newly developed function ring, the Sigma 300-600mm F4 DG OS | Sports has been designed to help professionals capture their best images.
Super-telephoto zoom with the optical performance and brightness of a prime lens
Exceptional versatility in the super-telephoto zoom category
The Sigma 300-600mm F4 DG OS | Sports extends the capabilities of a 600mm F4 prime lens with the freedom to zoom down to 300mm without compromising optical performance. Its internal zoom mechanism minimises shifts in the centre of gravity across the entire zoom range, making it a versatile and easy-to-handle tool for an unprecedented variety of shooting situations.
Extremely high optical performance
The Sigma 300-600mm F4 DG OS | Sports comprises 28 elements in 21 groups, including 6 FLD glass elements, 1 SLD glass element, an anomalous dispersion glass and a high refractive index glass. Its optical design provides excellent correction of various aberrations, such as chromatic aberration, across the entire zoom range. Although it is a zoom, the Sigma 300-600mm F4 DG OS | Sports offers the unrivalled optical performance of a prime lens.
Ultra-fast autofocus and powerful optical stabilisation so you never miss a decisive moment
High-speed AF driven by the HLA
With its F4 maximum aperture, the Sigma 300-600mm F4 DG OS | Sports features a lightweight focusing lens group, enabling the use of an HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) motor, an optimised arrangement of optical power and state-of-the-art glass materials. The result is high-speed autofocus with exceptional precision.
Powerful optical stabilisation driven by the OS2 algorithm
The Sigma 300-600mm F4 DG OS | Sports offers exceptional optical stabilisation of 5.5 stops at 600mm. Equipped with Sigma's advanced OS2 algorithm, a drive unit with a specially designed actuator and a high-precision sensor, this lens meets the demands of a fast super-telephoto zoom with ease. In addition, photographers can choose between two OS modes: Mode 1 suits most photography and video situations, while Mode 2 has been specially designed for panning shots. Driven by Sigma's Intelligent OS algorithm, this mode stabilises the image during horizontal, vertical or diagonal movements, regardless of camera orientation, allowing photographers to capture moving subjects with professional precision.
The quality, functionality and features of the flagship of Sigma's Sports line
Combines robustness and mobility
The main parts of the lens are made of magnesium alloy and the lens hood is carbon fibre, giving it both robustness and lightness. In addition, the optical design, with its centre of gravity closer to the camera, considerably improves weight balance, which tends to be front-heavy.
Thermal insulation paint for perfect lens performance
The exterior of the lens is coated with thermal insulation paint that effectively suppresses heat absorption from sunlight. This prevents the lens from heating up, even during long outdoor shoots in sunny conditions, such as nature or motorsport photography.
A new function ring adds extended functionality
The Sigma 300-600mm F4 DG OS | Sports features a new function ring that further expands the lens's options. The focus ring offers two different modes, selected via its switch:
Focus preset mode: Turning the function ring left or right instantly moves focus to a pre-registered focus position. This is useful when you frequently shoot from a fixed focus position.
Motorised focus mode: Focus can be adjusted at a constant speed by operating the function ring. This allows smooth focus transitions when recording video, as well as focusing with minimal movement when shooting handheld. The focus speed can be changed in two steps depending on the angle through which the function ring is turned.
Durable tripod collar that is easy to handle
The tripod collar's rotation mechanism uses bearings for long durability and smooth rotation, with an optional click mechanism at every 90° angle to aid precision. The tripod collar foot is compatible with Arca-Swiss-type clamps, but it can easily be removed and replaced with various interchangeable feet (sold separately) to suit a variety of situations and preferences.
Equipped with a built-in filter holder
The Sigma 300-600mm F4 DG OS | Sports is fitted with a filter holder for standard ø40.5mm filters. In addition, Sigma has developed a new circular polarising filter and a variable ND filter (sold separately) that can be adjusted by approximately 7 stops when inserted into the lens.
Weather resistance characteristic of Sigma's Sports line
The mount connections, manual focus ring, zoom ring, custom switches and other control switches, as well as the external joints, are all protected against dust and splashes by a dust- and splash-resistant structure1. In addition, the front surface of the lens is coated with a water- and oil-repellent coating to make cleaning easier when water droplets or dust adhere to the front of the lens.
Various shooting assistance functions
The lens features a variety of buttons and switches to suit individual preferences and the demands of different shooting situations, including AFL buttons in four different positions, a focus mode switch, a focus limiter switch, an OS stabilisation switch (Mode 1 or Mode 2) and a custom mode switch. The L-Mount version of the lens is also compatible with teleconverters (TC-1411/TC-2011) for autofocus shooting at a maximum focal length of 1200mm.
