Uncompromising resolution and beautiful bokeh to make the most of the F1.2 aperture
Exceptional resolving power
In addition to two SLD glass elements, a high anomalous dispersion glass element is used to minimise the longitudinal chromatic aberration inherent in large-aperture lenses. Aspherical elements further thoroughly correct spherical aberration and sagittal coma. This lens delivers high and reliable resolving power even at maximum aperture, fully showcasing the rendering that only an F1.2 aperture can offer. It captures every detail of the subject's expression and texture, raising the quality of photos and videos to a higher level.
Beautiful bokeh that makes the subject stand out
The combination of a large aperture (F1.2) and an 85 mm telephoto focal length produces a very shallow depth of field and rich, beautiful bokeh. The use of a 13-blade diaphragm maintains an almost circular bokeh, even when the aperture is stopped down. The natural rendering of the bokeh, which softens coloured outlines and double-line effects, makes the subject stand out impressively, giving portraits and videos a sense of depth and exceptional immersion.
Designed to minimise flare and ghosting
Flare and ghosting, which reduce image quality, are controlled under all angles of incident light thanks to state-of-the-art simulation technology. High resistance to backlighting ensures clear, sharp images in all lighting conditions.
Exceptional mobility that breaks with the traditional conventions of an 85 mm F1.2 lens
The smallest and lightest in its class among 85 mm F1.2 lenses
Thanks to the optimal arrangement of aspherical lenses within the focusing groups, the number of lenses making up the focusing unit has been considerably reduced. Although it incorporates a complex floating mechanism, its precise mechanical design, reduced to the strict minimum, gives it the lowest weight in its class for an 85 mm F1.2 lens*1, at 905 g*2. It can be used comfortably even during long shooting sessions or in situations demanding great mobility, greatly improving flexibility in the field. *1 As an interchangeable AF 85 mm F1.2 lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. Fast, silent autofocus with dual HLA system
Fast, silent autofocus, driven by the dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator), delivers reliable tracking performance for both stills and video. Even with the shallow depth of field resulting from the F1.2 maximum aperture, it tracks the subject precisely, enabling smooth and accurate shooting in all situations.
The pride of a creative tool: the exceptional build quality of the Art line
By manufacturing the lens from high-precision parts made of lightweight, highly durable materials such as TSC*1, it achieves the rigidity and durability characteristic of the Art line without compromising portability, along with a build quality that makes it a reliable photographic tool over the long term.
A full range of functions and build quality that meets the demands of professional use
Minimal focus breathing*
Optimisation of the focusing lens group and its aspherical shape greatly reduce focus breathing*. The change in angle of view caused by focus shift is minimised, achieving a natural focus transition when recording video.
Various shooting assist functions
The lens is equipped with an AFL button in two positions, which can be assigned to various functions via the menu on certain cameras. In addition to the aperture ring, the lens features an aperture ring lock switch1 and a click on/off switch to enable or disable the click.
Dust- and splash-resistant construction / water- and oil-repellent coating
In addition to its dust- and splash-resistant construction1, the front surface of the lens is coated with a water- and oil-repellent coating, allowing the lens to be used with confidence even in demanding outdoor environments.
A complete F1.2 range covering wide-angle, standard and telephoto focal lengths
With the arrival of this product, the Sigma F1.2 Art series is finally complete with three lenses, alongside the 35 mm F1.2 DG II | Art and the 50 mm F1.2 DG DN | Art. Outstanding optical performance delivers high resolving power across the entire focusing range from maximum aperture. Fast, ultra-precise autofocus made possible by Dual HLA technology. And a compact, lightweight body that ranks among the best in its class. Thanks to the cutting-edge design and manufacturing technologies Sigma has developed over the years, the striking presence and spatial depth created by these three uncompromising lenses make your compositions even more impressive.
